With 2024 now firmly behind us, I’ve taken some time to reflect on the standout images and moments from 2024. From unexpected encounters with bucks to the stunning fall colors, each photo captures the moments that made this year unforgettable.
With that being said, lets get into the images!
10. Eastern Bluebird
I spent a lot of time this spring of 2024 photographing one of my favourite birds, the Eastern Bluebird. Which is why this photo is included in my top 10 of 2024.
9. Busy Bee
I really wanted to capture a blend of what I call “static” and “dynamic” nature, in the setting of spring. After taking a hike through a local wetland area, I found a bunch of bee’s that frequented these pinky purple flowers. I set up with my camera, and after some patience, I was able to get a photo with a bee facing the camera.
8. Spotted Cucumber Beetle
During a late summer/early fall road trip to follow the migration of birds of prey. There was a lull in activity, and while looking around me I noticed this Spotted Cucumber Beetle, so I turned my attention over to it, taking a few shots. I quite liked how it turned out.
7. Red-winged Blackbird
This photo to me really captured “spring”, featuring a female Red-winged Blackbird and some green buds on the tree branch it was perched on.
6. Hilton Falls
I’ve repeatedly returned to this location over the past few years, each time not quite happy with my shot. 2024 I shot this image, and was quite happy with it. Which is why it has made the top 10 list for 2024.
5. Northern Harrier
This is just one from a series of images i’ve captured this winter of the Northern Harrier. This is one of the few times the harrier flew quite close to where I was positioned, allowing me to get this shot. It’s one of my favourites out of the series, which is why I have included it in this list.
4. The Mill
This is my favorite photo from this past fall. I was out running errands when I noticed the light starting to look rather nice. I knew this would also probably be one of the last days to get the fall colours at their peak, so off to the old mill I went.
I'm quite happy with this image, and it even went on to win the @visithaltonhills fall bucket list photo contest!
3. Red-Tailed Hawk
I've had the idea for a photo like this in my mind's eye for awhile. A very minimalistic, single perch, a somewhat regal posed bird of prey, and some dramatic skies behind. I was quite happy to get this image.
2. Autunm Woodpecker
I see both Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers quite frequently, but they don't usually present me with great photo opportunities as they're usually high up in a tree, or just off the side of the trunk. This one however, was quite low during the fall, while it attempted to eat whatever was inside the small branch it had perched on.
1. The Buck
Looking back on these images, I’m reminded of all the incredible places photography has taken me, places I never would have seen otherwise. I’m excited to see what 2025 has in store. Thank you for taking the time to view my images and be a part of this adventure!
Until the next post!

Beautiful images! I think the cucumber beetle may be my favorite. Lots of color and simplicity.
What a fantastic series of photos. Thanks for sharing them.
